Safe drinking water is the key to successful rehydration therapy
Just a few years after the first bags of ORS left the UNICEF World Warehouse in Copenhagen in 1975, this simple and cheap-to-produce preparation had become a game-changer in the fight against diarrhoea-related deaths, not least among children. To this day, however, the main cause of diarrhoeic diseases is also the reason for failed rehydration therapies: contaminated drinking water.
What keeps drinking water pure for billions of people could soon revolutionise oral rehydration therapy (ORT)
Unlike all existing and traditional ORS preparations worldwide, Purosan ORS+ is a multi-chamber bag system that combines an ORS preparation with a water disinfection component in the form of a pill that splits chlorine dioxide. Gaseous chlorine dioxide is used all over the world for treating drinking water. Purosan ORS+ contains a tablet, which in solution binds to chlorine dioxide. It works independently of the pH value and is two and a half times as biocidal as chlorine, but without any health risk to the human organism. Disinfection with chlorine dioxide achieves a very high level of effectiveness after only 10 minutes, against both bacterial and viral contamination of the ORS solution.
Purosan ORS+ Helps Reaching Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 6
In 2015, all United Nations member states agreed on 17 goals to address the most urgent challenges of our time by 2030. Purosan ORS+ can help achieve at least two goals: SDG 3 »Good health and well-being« and SDG 6 »Clean water and sanitation«.
